Criteria for 2007-08 LFCM Young Artist Chamber Ensemble Competition
ENTRANT ELIGIBILITY
- Middle School/High School Division—performers must not exceed usual ages; public, private, and home school students are eligible.
- Undergraduate College and University Division—students must be enrolled in Spring 2008 as an undergraduate at an institution of higher education. No one over the age of 25 as of March 30, 2008 may compete.
- Division will be determined by the academic grade/level of the oldest member.
- No performer may audition in more than one ensemble.
AWARDS
- All finalists chosen to audition in person receive tickets to the LFCM concert featuring the Ying Quartet on March 30, 2008, at 3:00 p.m. in the Sheldon Memorial Art Gallery (UNL).
- Awards in each division are First Place and Second Place.
- Each member of First Place ensembles receives $500.00; each member of Second Place ensembles receives $300.00.
- Receipt of award is contingent on performing in the Winners Concert at 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, March 30, 2008.
ENSEMBLE REQUIREMENTS
- Three to six members.
- Any combination of strings, winds, brass, and piano (instrumentation must be identical in all works performed).
- No conductor.
REPERTORY REQUIREMENTS
- Playing time of 15-20 minutes for middle/high school division.
- Playing time of 25-30 minutes for college/university division.
- At least two contrasting moods/styles/eras.
- High quality transcriptions permitted (please check with competition organizers if in doubt on this point).
- No cuts allowed.
- Repeats optional.
- Finalists must provide three copies of score (wherever possible) for the judges.
AUDITION RECORDINGS
- Recordings should contain 8-10 minutes of music; the piece(s) performed on the recording should be part of the repertory to be performed at the live audition.
- Should be submitted on cassette tape or CD-R.
- Recordings should be sent to Dr. David Breckbill, Doane College, 1014 Boswell Avenue, Crete, NE 68333.
- Recordings must be received no later than Friday, February 1, 2008.
- Ensembles will be chosen and informed of the results by Friday, February 15.
